Holly at Niko's (30/366)

My friend Holly, after she treated me to a very nice lunch at Niko's this afternoon.

After the Storm (29/366)

A shot taken out our living room window in the early afternoon, after a blizzard romped its way through the city. It looks bright and sunny, but the wind chill values were in the -46 range.

Mina Wakes Up (28/366)

Mina wakes up. Can you tell this is the cats' favorite chair? Just look at all that cat hair...

Cat, Incense, and Sewing Box (27/366)

The wooden cat (considerably less dusty) was a gift from someone long ago. The dragon's blood incense was bought at Radiance Books & Treasures. The sewing box holds our needles, thread, and buttons. Taken in the living room.

Keys in the Kitchen (26/366)

I was home all day today working on the latest graphic novel, so the kitchen was about as far as I got in terms of photography. Keys up top; necklaces and my iPod Shuffle beneath. The red mitten was given to me by Amanda, and I sometimes use it to hold my cellphone; it also comes in handy for carrying change down to the laundry room, since my current indoor lounging pants have no pockets.

Ninja and Scribe (25/366)

The ninja is a Plot Ninja that was given to me when I participated in NaNoWriMo; if the plot or characters of my novel got out of hand, he could swoop in, kill everybody and destroy everything, and leave me to start fresh. :-)

The scribe cost me $1.25 at a dollar store in Selkirk, Manitoba. He's a sort of talisman, since my line of work is related to scribing; he represents my skills and my work ethic.

Both are sitting on the swoopy base of our 24" iMac, which was given a good cleaning immediately after this photo was taken. (Where the heck did all those little dots come from...?)

Xylocaine at the Assiniboine Clinic (24/366)

Some bottles of Xylocaine on an open shelf, taken in the doctor's office while waiting for him to come in and see me. I have no idea why a local anesthetic was at the ready. The doctor in question was subbing for my regular GP, and I don't recall my regular GP ever having such bottles sitting around.

Breakfast of January 23rd (23/366)

Low-fat vanilla yogurt, Northern Gold raspberry and blueberry granola, and a cup of Folgers Classic Roast coffee with evaporated milk and Splenda. Quite delicious and energizing.

The Walls Have Eyes (22/366)

The tower of the Speedy Glass building near the corner of Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street. Those eyes have been there ever since I can remember, and I find them simultaneously cute and a little creepy.

The funny reflection in the lower right corner? I took this picture while on the bus, and that's sunlight shining off the shoulder of someone else.

Sunlight on the Altar (21/366)

I haven't completely disassembled the altar from Saturday night. Here is the chalice, with salt in a seashell. (The chalice is silver, and yes, it needs a good polishing...)

View from Our Bedroom Window (20/366)

The view from our bedroom window (which faces a brick wall... hence this very narrow field of view), taken at about 10:30 am.

January Full Moon Altar (19/366)

A detail of the statuary on the Full Moon Group's altar last night. The Goddess in Her aspect as the Maiden and the Horned God in His animal aspect.

Morning in Downtown Winnipeg (18/366)

Taken in downtown Winnipeg while waiting for a bus to take me to the city's west end for a doctor's appointment. (The shot was taken through the plastic windows of the bus shelter, hence the "spotting" in the foreground.) The temperature? About -27 degrees Celcius, with a windchill so low you really DON'T want the numbers.

United Army Surplus used to be the most amazing store, but they closed this summer. Wah.

(And many buildings in downtown Winnipeg are a LOT taller than these; this cluster of apartment blocks stands toward the western end of the downtown area proper.)

Light in the Living Room (16/366)

Our living room, this afternoon at about 3:30 pm. The colorful cloth at the lower right conceals my mother's ashes. The broom is a besom, or ritual broom that is used to symbolically clean the temple space prior to a ceremony. The photo on the left is George and I, kissing at our church wedding service; the art on the right is a calligraphy version of "When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple".

Missing Cat (15/366)

From the traffic light standard at the corner of Corydon Avenue and Lilac Street. Seen as I was waiting for the bus to take me to Pharma Plus after shopping at FoodFare.

"Much loved"... a tragedy writ small.

Starbucks and Medication (14/366)

Amanda gave me a free Starbucks holiday shirt yesterday (thank you, Amanda!); the logo is on the arm of the shirt. Each little pile of medication equals one day's meds; the pile at the top left is missing two Ritalin tablets which I'd already taken today. The wide shot I took has all six days worth (since my med week ends on Saturday), but this picture had a slightly more interesting composition.

Emmie & Mina in Studio Chairs (13/366)

Emmie (on the right) and Mina (on the left) lying on chairs in the studio. Not the best shot I've ever taken (or will ever take), but they can't all be gems, and I'm exhausted.

George's Circle and Ellipses Templates (12/366)

George's circle and ellipses templates, from his drawing table/drafting board in the studio. They're beat up, but still servicable.

My first meatloaf in 10 years (11/366)

I haven't made meatloaf in at least 10 years. This one turned out pretty well; not only did it have a lot of visually interesting textures, but it was mighty tasty.

My first meatloaf in 10 years

The recipe:

2 beaten eggs
4 tablespoons ketchup
3 large dollops of HP Sauce
1 packet onion soup mix

Stir these ingredients together, then add:

1 kg (2.3 lbs) lean ground beef
1/3 cup oatmeal (or more until desired consistency is reached)

Mix thoroughly. Divide meat between two 9"x5" loaf pans and bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 55 minutes.

Top shelf in the studio bookcase (10/366)

The figures are, of course, Luke Skywalker and Madman, with miniature kitchen appliances at their feet. (The sword didn't come with the original Madman figure, which we got back in 1996 as a give-away at the traditional Sunday evening San Diego Comic-Con wrap party hosted by Graphitti; it came from a Witchblade figure which has since been packed away, minus its cutlery.) The object on the far right is a one-of-a-kind Captain Canuck pin, stored in a box with a Winnipeg Transit bus pass from 1962.

Epson, JVC, and "Juke Box Rhythm" (9/366)

Our new all-in-one Epson printer/copier/scanner (ooh, shiny!), the studio TV that formerly belonged to my mother and "Juke Box Rhythm" on the Drive-In Classics channel.

Setting Sun, Dark Heart (8/366)

The sun setting outside our living room window this evening. I'm sinking into depression, so the darkness of the photo accurately reflects the increasing darkness of my current mood.

Terri @ Smitty's (6/366)

My friend Terri at Smitty's on Pembina Highway at 4:15 pm today (I just love the light on the side of her face); is that Ed Gein behind her...?

Terri at Smitty's

We had a lovely meal and a good natter. I was so glad that she came to take me away from the studio for a while, since I've been working like a dog the last few days.

Starting off late (1-5/366)

5) Jessie Street at 3:45 pm this afternoon. Notice the bands on the trees -- the scourge of elm bark beetles the previous summer.

4) In our living room -- a Pena statue, with a couple of books and various paperwork; guess what that is in the foreground?

3) On the entertainment unit in our studio -- an Isis statue, background; a Pena circle of cats candleholder that used to belong to my mother, foreground; yes, that IS a piece of popcorn back there; the blue candle was charged last Yule for creativity and has yet to be burned; the greenery is a fir bough that was on the altar at this year's Yule ritual.

2) On top of the 24" iMac in our studio -- a figurine of Megabyte from my ReBoot fandom days.

Statement of Intent

I've decided to take part in Project 365 even though I'm starting several days late. Since there appear to be no hard-and-fast rules to the Project, I think (hope) that's allowed; I couldn't have started earlier in any case, since we didn't get our camera until a couple of days ago.

I'll upload several photos a bit later today.
